Our Core Values

Muhammadiyah is a non-profit Islamic Organization that practice the teaching of Islam based on the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The advent of Muhammadiyah was inspired by the spirit to appreciate and implement of the exhortation of the Al-Quran as follows:

"Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong. They are the ones to attain felicity." Surah ali-Imran, 3: 104.

This verse behests all believers to set up a league/assembly of people/organization so as to form a platform to call upon mankind to kindness by doing what is good and forbidding what is wrong. This is the essence of the Mission to Enjoin What is Right and Forbid What is Wrong and this can only be achieved through Education, Welfares, etc.

Tauheed (Faith in the unity of Allah) is the foundation of the Islamic Faith. It is also the fundamental principle that guides Muhammadiyah in carrying out its mission. That Allah is One, and He alone is the Sustainer of the Universe, is a belief rigorously upheld in all efforts towards enjoining good and forbidding eveil. Yet that Faith which emanates from Tauhid must be accompanied by continuous benevolent deeds ("Amal Solih"). These benevolent deeds are those that Islam teaches as exemplified or taught to us by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Muhammadiyah rejects all innovations in religious worship which do not derive any authority from Rasulullah (pbuh), and rejects all teachings based on supersition or fantasy. Proper emulation of the devotion, deeds, character and struggle of Rasulullah (pbuh) can be achieved through a sincere and serious study of the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Knowledge of the two primary sources of Islam is imperative.

As regards to the matters of the mundane, Muhammadiyah encourages appreciation and mastery of the latest in science and technology. Scientific knowledge and findings should serve the needs of Man in his quest to seek the pleasure of Allah (mardhatillah). Rasulullah (pbuh) once stated that knowledge/truth was the lost treasure of Muslims whereas they were the rightful heirs. Thus, whether in Faith or "worldly" matters, knowledge ("ilm") plays a crucial role. At all times, the personality of the Rasulullah (pbuh) which reflects the wholesome intergration of faith in Allah, spirituality, morality, upright character and worldly practicality shall always be the first guide.

Muhammadiyah believes that this conviction would produce generations of people like those found among the Campanions of Rasulullah (pbuh), successors of the Companions, and followers of the Successors. They are the models of Muhammadiyah, in line with the teachings found in the Qur'an:

"You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin what is right and forbid evil and you believe in Allah" - Surah Ali Imran 3:110.

Our Aims & Objectives

The aims and objectives of Muhammadiyah are as follows:

* To function as a Movement that revives the truth teachings of Islam and as a Missionary agency.

* To function as an agent of social change.

* To function as a centre of Islamic knowledge.

Muhammadiyah seeks to achieve the above aims and objectives by carrying out activities based on the following principles:-

* Upholding and implementing (wherever possible) Islamic values, culture and the way of life in accordance with the Qur'an and the Sunnah. In this regard, we seek to eliminate all forms of innovations in worship as well as practices and beliefs based on superstition and fantasy. We distinguish between practices that derive its authority or origins from the Qur'an and the Sunnah on the one hand, and those which are vestiges of culture or tradition from pre-Islamic times which are contrary to Islamic values and spirit on the other.

* Tawheed and Iman permeate through every aspect of our lives. As a matter of principle, our lives are not dichotomised into the "worldly" and the "religious" as such. The Belief in the Unity of Allah is manifested in all facets of life including matters relating to living in a secular country, our role in a multi-religious society and our duties as ordinary citizens. Islam encompasses both "Hablum-minallah wa Hablum-minannas" (the relationship between Man and Allah and relationship between Man and Man).

* Foster greater unity and co-operation among the Muslim Ummah, whether at the level of individuals, groups, institutions or schools of law, both locally and internationally. Greater unity not only enhances the status of the Ummah but enables it to make more positive contribution to Mankind in the light of our duty as "Khalifah fil-ardh" or Vicegerent of Allah on Earth.
